Choose a room your household can comfortably use together. Check that its windows close properly and keep exits clear.

Select a portable air cleaner sized for that room. Look at its smoke clean-air delivery rate, place it where airflow is unobstructed and plan to run it continuously during smoke events.

Keep particle-producing activities out of the room. Avoid candles and smoking, and have replacement filters available. Your central HVAC and fresh-air settings also need a plan that accounts for outside conditions.
